Pinnacle Bosses — the 0.5 Access Model and All Eight
Pinnacle bosses are the endgame’s final gate. 0.5 “Return of the Ancients” replaced the entire access model, so following a previous season’s guide will send you looking for a place that no longer exists. This page covers the new structure first, then summarises the route to each of the eight bosses.
Detailed guides for individual bosses live in their own pages.
What changed in 0.5
The Realmgate is gone
You used to insert splinters gathered from each mechanic at the Realmgate on the Atlas and choose a difficulty tier. That system was removed wholesale.
- The Realmgate can no longer be found on the Atlas.
- Pinnacle bosses no longer have a difficulty value at all.
If you’ve read that “50 splinters is easy, 150 is hard,” that’s 0.3-era information and it no longer applies.
Quest versions and repeatable versions
The official patch notes put it this way:
All Pinnacle Bosses now have quest versions that can be accessed deterministically, alongside repeatable non-quest versions that offer a greater challenge.
In practice:
| Quest version | Repeatable version | |
|---|---|---|
| Key | Granted once by the game | Farm the tradable version yourself |
| Revives | Unlimited | 2 |
| Monster level | Lower | Higher |
So the game walks you through the first attempt, and the real challenge starts on repeats. Since revives are unlimited on that first run, use it to learn the fight properly.
Each mechanic has its own hub and key
With the shared gate gone, the Atlas now has fixed locations per mechanic, and each one uses its own key item. Officially: “The Atlas now has fixed points of interest at specific locations… All league mechanics on the Atlas now have quests that introduce the mechanic and guide you through its various stages up to the Pinnacle Boss.”
The practical consequence is that there is no single answer to “how do I enter a pinnacle boss” any more. Check the one you’re chasing.
The eight pinnacle bosses
| Boss | Mechanic | Key |
|---|---|---|
| The Arbiter of Ash | Fortress / Crisis | 3 Crisis Fragments → Burning Monolith |
| The Arbiter of Divinity | Fortress / Origin | Origin Spark + Origin Cradle → Origin Core |
| Xesht, We That Are One | Breach | Breachlord Sac → Twisted Domain |
| The Raven Trickster | Delirium | Key awarded for completing a Simulacrum |
| The Bodach | Ritual | Complete the Rite of the Nameless (5 maps) |
| The Aberration | Expedition / Runes of Aldur | Defeat Olroth, then the Verisium Crater |
| Vessel of Kulemak | Abyss | Kulemak’s Invitation → The Black Cathedral |
| Atziri, the Red Queen | Vaal Temple | No key — build out the temple |
Four of these are new in 0.5: the Arbiter of Divinity, the Raven Trickster, the Bodach, and the Aberration. They won’t appear in any older guide.
Also worth noting: Olroth, Origin of the Fall is no longer a pinnacle boss. In 0.5 he’s a prerequisite gate on the way to the Aberration.
Individual pages are being added over time. The Arbiter of Ash, The Arbiter of Divinity, Xesht, The Raven Trickster, The Bodach, The Aberration, Vessel of Kulemak, and Atziri are available now — all eight are covered.
Ascension trials are a separate thing
The Trial of the Sekhemas (→ Zarokh) and the Trial of Chaos (→ the Trialmaster) are not pinnacle bosses. They’re Ascension Trials, and they serve a different purpose.
There are 8 ascendancy points total, in 4 tiers of 2. You can take either trial repeatedly and still collect all eight.
| Points | Trial of the Sekhemas | Trial of Chaos |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | Djinn Barya area level 22+ · 1 floor | Ultimatum area level 39+ · 4 rounds |
| 4 | 45+ · 2 floors | 60+ · 7 rounds |
| 6 | 60+ · 3 floors | 75+ · 10 rounds |
| 8 | 75+ · 4 floors · kill Zarokh | 75+ · 10 rounds + kill the Trialmaster |
The 10-round Trial of Chaos needs an Ultimatum of area level 75+, while the character level requirement is 65. Those are two different numbers and they get conflated constantly.
One important 0.5 change to the Sekhemas: your maximum Runic Ward is added to your starting Honour. Runic Ward is itself new in 0.5, and a Reforging Bench was added at the trial entrance — so you can spec into Runic Ward right before a run and start with that much extra Honour.
Atlas points moved to the Fortress
Not strictly a pinnacle topic, but you need to know it. Officially: “Maps inside the fortress grant one or more passive points for the Atlas Passive Tree. This entirely replaces the previous method of gaining Atlas Points.”
The Atlas tree expanded past 300 nodes, and clearing the Fortress gives enough points to fully allocate it. As a result Atlas respec no longer exists. Old advice about carefully prioritising scarce Atlas points is obsolete.
How to prepare
Pinnacle bosses are nothing like ordinary map monsters.
- Defences first. Capped elemental resistances and maximum life. See The Basics.
- Learn the fight on the quest version. Unlimited revives means the learning is free.
- Pick one target and farm only that key. Every boss uses a different key, so splitting your effort stalls all of them.
- If you need ascendancy points, do the trials first — unlike pinnacle bosses, they directly affect your character’s power.
