The Aberration — Past Olroth to the Verisium Crater
The Aberration is a pinnacle boss added in 0.5. Unusually, it serves as the pinnacle boss for two leagues at once — Expedition and Runes of Aldur.

Olroth is not the pinnacle boss
The first thing to correct. Olroth, Origin of the Fall was long known as the final Expedition boss, but 0.5 stripped that status.
Olroth is now a prerequisite gate on the way to the Aberration — you have to defeat him before the next step opens.
Getting in
Straight from the wiki:
The Aberration can be fought by travelling to the Verisium Crater from Ruins of Kingsmarch after defeating Olroth, Origin of the Fall and bringing The Triskelion Reforged.
So three things are required:
- Defeat Olroth (prerequisite)
- The Triskelion Reforged (the key)
- Start from Ruins of Kingsmarch
The key item itself spells out the route:
A masterwork of runecraft. Travel to the Ruins of Kingsmarch and speak to Makoru to reach the Fallen Star where this item can be used.
In other words you pass through an NPC, Makoru, in Ruins of Kingsmarch. You don’t just wander in holding the key — you need to find him.
Area levels are 79 for the quest version and 82 for the repeatable one.
What isn’t confirmed
Stated plainly rather than papered over:
- The wiki does not say where The Triskelion Reforged comes from. There is a separate item, Shattered Triskelion, described as “Can be repaired at the Verisium Anvil.” That looks like the route, but the wiki never states that repairing it produces The Triskelion Reforged.
- Whether the Fallen Star and the Verisium Crater are the same place isn’t stated either. The prose says you travel to the Verisium Crater; the item text says you reach the Fallen Star. The page doesn’t reconcile the two.
Rewards — Starlit Ore and the Verisium Anvil
The Aberration’s reward structure differs from other bosses. Instead of handing you uniques directly, it mostly drops “Starlit Ore.”
Each ore carries the same line: “Can be used at the Verisium Anvil to forge a new Unique item.” So it’s a two-step process — take the ore, forge it at the anvil.

Twisted Empyrean, a two-hand mace, can also drop directly without going through an ore.
Beyond that it drops support gems such as Olroth’s Conviction and Olroth’s Hubris, plus Emergent Instinct / Protection / Vigour / Possibility Ancient Augments.

Preparation
- You need to be able to kill Olroth reliably first — it’s a hard prerequisite with no way around it.
- Once you have the key, find Makoru in Ruins of Kingsmarch. The route is designed to run through that NPC.
- The Runes of Aldur league has several other bosses — Styrn, Medved, Vorana, Uhtred, and Olroth — with the Aberration at the end of that line.
