The Bodach — the Rite of the Nameless and Caer Tarth

Basic KnowledgePublishedUpdated

The Bodach is the Ritual pinnacle boss, added in 0.5. Being new, it appears in no earlier season’s guides.

If you haven’t read it yet, Pinnacle Bosses covers the overall 0.5 structure.

Don’t confuse it with the King in the Mists

Ritual has several bosses, so you’ll find sources stating that “the Ritual pinnacle boss is the King in the Mists.” That isn’t accurate as things stand.

Ritual’s bosses are the King in the Mists, the Queen in the Mists, and the Bodach — and the one classified as a pinnacle boss is the Bodach.

The King in the Mists is a separate encounter, reached with An Audience with the King, whose item text reads “Required to reveal the Crux of Nothingness on the Atlas.” Different destination entirely.

Getting in — attach five pieces to the effigy

The Bodach is fought at Caer Tarth. Unlike the other pinnacle bosses, it isn’t opened with a single key item.

Caer Tarth contains an effigy, and you must attach all five pieces to it before you can perform the Rite of the Nameless.

PieceFlavour text
Frayed ClothAccept the end.
Ragged ClothAccept oblivion.
Tangled TorsoAccept the darkness.
Brittle ArmAccept the now.
Mossy ArmAccept the futility.

All five share the same instruction: “Attach this item to the effigy in Caer Tarth to be able to perform the Rite of the Nameless.”

As the names suggest, the pieces make up a body — two cloths, a torso, and two arms assembled into the effigy.

Where each of the five pieces drops isn’t confirmed by a reliable source. This page will be updated once that’s verified.

What it drops

The Bodach drops its own set of uniques:

  • Vestige of Darkness — helmet
  • Liminal Coil — wand
  • Forgotten Warden — body armour
  • Periphery — bow
  • Sylvan’s Effigy — sceptre

Their modifiers and values are on the equipment pages.

Preparation

  • This boss opens with five pieces, not one key. Until they’re all attached, travelling to Caer Tarth won’t let you start the rite — check what’s already on the effigy first.
  • The Ritual mechanic itself (altars, Tribute, deferring rewards) is covered in Six Map Mechanics.
  • For defensive fundamentals, see The Basics.
