Quality Currency — Whetstones, Scraps, Prisms, and the More Multiplier
Quality is a value that sits outside the affix slots. It accumulates separately from your six affixes, and the base cap is 20%.
Catalyst quality on jewellery and jewels is a completely different system — see Raising Quality with Catalysts. This page covers ordinary quality on weapons, armour, flasks, and gems.
Quality is a separate number from affixes. The default cap is 20%.
- Blacksmith’s Whetstone — martial weapons, 1% more local physical damage per 1% quality
- Armourer’s Scrap — armour, 1% more local defence per 1%
- Arcanist’s Etcher — wands, staves, sceptres; +1% to the inherent skill’s quality
- Glassblower’s Bauble — flasks, 1% more recovery
- Gemcutter’s Prism — skill gems, always exactly 5%
Weapon quality is more, not increased, so it multiplies at the end — and it only scales base physical damage. Elemental damage added by affixes gains nothing from quality. Wands, staves, and sceptres get no stats from quality themselves; it feeds their inherent skill instead. Gemcutter’s Prism moves in 5% steps, so four of them fill 20%.
Whetstones and scraps apply less quality per use as item level rises. The exact per-level numbers aren’t officially published.
When to spend it
Fill quality after the affixes are settled — but the reason is subtler than it sounds. Quality itself doesn’t disappear when you change affixes. The risk is that while you’re still rolling, you might abandon the base entirely, and the currency you poured in goes with it. Once the item is committed, quality is safe to fill.
